Ubuntu Edgy on AMD64 TurboPrint

Post by cedenburn »

I have been using TurboPrint for at least three years and have had good results. But I recently tried to install to a fresh Linux Mint and can not get it to finish the install. Puts icons on the desktop but even from the cmd line it refuses to run sudo ./setup correctly. Any one else having simialar install problems with Edgy.

Actually I am having a hard time installing... I too have used Turboprint for 3 years and with good results. I even have a key. I'm on the 64bit Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon and not having any luck at all... below is the error message...
(Reading database ... 113700 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking turboprint (from .../turboprint_1.96-3_amd64.deb) ...
Setting up turboprint (1.96-3) ...
cat: /etc/turboprint/system.cfg: No such file or directory
chown: invalid argument: `'
chgrp: invalid argument: `'
chown: cannot access `/turboprint_lpr.log': No such file or directory
chown: cannot access `/turboprint_cups.log': No such file or directory
chgrp: cannot access `/turboprint_lpr.log': No such file or directory
chmod: cannot access `/turboprint_lpr.log': No such file or directory
chgrp: cannot access `/turboprint_cups.log': No such file or directory
chmod: cannot access `/turboprint_cups.log': No such file or directory
sh: checkpc: not found
reread is not implemented by the CUPS version of lpc.
Restarting CUPS printing system...
Was there something missing from this new version? The last version worked fine and I wish Turboprint would put up links to the older versions.

Hallo,

can you try if the .tgz download

turboprint-1.96-3.x86_64.tgz

installs correctly?

It seems like it installed properly, but... when running the setup it brings up the kdesu xtpsetup window... I enter my password and it goes away... that's all that happens... nothing else. I don't even get to setup my printer.

What do I do now?

I got it fixed but not the way it should have worked... I ended up installing it through the CUPS and then following the directions from the README file in the installation folder using the terminal to install and apply the key.

The setup icon on the desktop wasn't working at all...
