Canon MG6250 Printing Black & White

Post by TAW »

Hi,

I have been using Turboprint for a few years now, with great success.

Recently I have updated my PC to use Ubuntu 14.04 64 Bit and have installed Turboprint 2.33-1 amd64 and now find that if I print using Google Chrome that my prints are in Black & White to my Canon MG6250.

The printer is connected via bjnp: and was working fine when I was using Ubuntu 12.04 using the same configuration details.

If I set up a printer using CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.10-pre2 driver, then I can print in colour, which points towards the Turboprint driver not working properly.

Hope someone can help

Hello,

can you please post the log file /var/log/turboprint/print.log after trying to print in color from Google Chrome (section for the last print starting from "### new print job" is sufficient).

The color mode is actually set to "Gray" in the print job.

Please check the color setting in the Chrome browser's print dialog. If it is correctly set to "Color", then check the default settings in TurboPrint Control Center (button "Configure", tab "Color").
If "Color mode" is set to "RGB (color), then please open a Terminal windows and enter the following command to check the command line print settings:

lpoptions -p <printername>

(replace <printername> with the queue short name, e.g. tp0 - as shown in TurboPrint Control, column "short").

There you may find something like "ColorModel=Gray" - to remove the color settings enter:

lpoptions -p <printername> -r ColorModel

Then try to print from Chrome.

Hi,

This is the result of lpoptions -p MG6250_Home

There are no settings in Chrome to change from Black & white to colour when using the Turboprint printer. It does have the option when I use the CUPS+Gutenprint driver.

Color mode is set to RGB in th TP control centre.

Tried the lpoptions -p <printername> -r ColorModel and it still prints in grey scale.

Thank you for sending the information! The problem seems to be the following:

The current version of the Chrome print dialog doesn't detect TurboPrint as a color printer driver, a workaround is to click on "Print using system dialog" at the bottom of the Chrome print dialog.

We are working on a solution.

After reading this, I just tried printing from Google Drive from Firefox. It prints in color just fine.

Is there still no fix for this.

Very annoying after paying for a non-working product.

Hi,

Thanks for the fix. Only problem is now my keyfile has expired as this is a new version.

Not sure why I have to pay for another one as it wasn't working properly!

It's working fine now with my HP 7510. I didn't have to do anything with a keyfile or anything else.

Thanks for the fix,

Unfortunately my keyfile licence says it is only valid up till Nov 2013 :(

Which means I will have to spend another EUR 17,95 to get it working again...

I didn't mind paying for the upgrade when I bought a new printer, but does this mean I will have to keep paying for 'upgrades' outside of the 6 months free term, so I can continue to use the same printer, when it suddenly stops working
