Printing from Mac to Ubuntu Linux

Post by colinbes »

I am running latest turboprint on a Ubuntu Server running CUPS with a Canon ip4300 printer.

Printing from Linux is fine, however printing from my macbook (macosx) is not up to scratch.

Basic ascii printing from my mac seems to works fine, anything a little more complicated (from neooffice, mindmanager etc) doesn't work well. It either scales wrong or text prints as thick black lines (images embedded into document seem to work, but high quality is not good).

Reading around my understanding is that one end must be setup to use raw printer, the other end requires correct printer drivers.

I am only able to get any form of printing if I setup my mac to use raw printer and linux box to use correct driver. But (and I assume this is reason why) I get no print options when printing from mac - is this correct? It doesn't make sense to me.

Has anyone been able to reliably print from a mac to linux and could they please advise as to how they did their setup.

Much appreciated,
