MP530 stopped working with Ubuntu 6.06

I bought a Canon MP530 and installed it with the Turboprint drivers in my Ubuntu 6.06 box 3 months ago using a direct USB cable to the Ubuntu box.

Did not have a problem at all and printing was working spotlessly, at the same time I installed the community scan driver mp150-0.12.2 and I had my scanner running perfectly.

I was a happy man until....

A couple of weeks ago I tried to print a document to no avail.

In my turborpint.log I see the following:

cups::get_or_set_printer_status: IPP_GET_PRINTER_ATTRIBUTES get 'device-uri' failed
lp -d Canon_PIXMA_MP530-TurboPrint /tmp/tp16089_1.tmp

in the error.log of CUPS, I see a number of the following lines:

E [04/Jul/2007:18:41:54 -0400] cupsdAuthorize: Local authentication certificate not found!
E [04/Jul/2007:18:41:54 -0400] cupsdAuthorize: Local authentication certificate not found!

The TPSetup application shows a prompt "Printer not connected; will retry in 30 seconds". However the scanner continues working fine under SANE!, this proves that the physical connection is still fine.

The only changes I have done to my box is keep updated it with the Ubuntu security updates (may be one of this updates generated the problem?).

Please help!, any pointers would be appreciated.

Found the problem!

Probably one of the Ubuntu updates changed the pèrmissions of /dev/usblp0.
It had group owner scanner and it should be lp. Changed it back and the MP530 is back working!
