Canon Pixma TR8550 - Page feed issue

Post by CesareFalco »

Printing works fine with my Canon Pixma TR8550, but page feed on a multiple pages document doesn't.

After printing correctly the first page, the upper margin from second page on gets more and more reduced until a page gets printed halfway between different sheets.

I'm pretty sure this is not a printer issue, as I also have other PC with different OS's and printings works fine.

My setup:
- Ubuntu Linux 19.10
- Canon Pixma TR8550
- Network printing via CUPS URI

Feel free to ask for more details.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

thank you for the problem report. Two questions:

1. Is the page content shifted to the page top or to the page bottom on the second printed page?

2. Can you please open TurboPrint Monitor, check the "Preview Jobs" option and check if the pages are also shifted in the preview windows or if the problem is only visible on the printed page?

Sorry for replying so late.

1. the content is shifted upwards i.e. the upper margin gets more and more reduced.

2. yes, the shift happens in the preview window as well.

Update: I didn't notice before, the shift also happens horizontally.

I'm attaching a scan of a 5 copies print of the same page (sorry had to compress it as pdf's are not allowed).
Hope this helps.

Thank you for sending the information and please excuse the delay. If the shift is also visible in the preview window, it is not caused by the printer driver but probably by the postcript interpreter "Ghostscript".

You can try if the following:

Open TurboPrint Control, dialog "Preferences"

turboprint-control-ghostscript-settings.png
turboprint-control-ghostscript-settings.png (37.95 KiB) Viewed 5732 times
In this dialog, uncheck the option "Use GPL Ghostscript with extensions for TurboPrint".
Save the settings with the button "OK".

Then you can try if printing works without position shift.
Please let me know if this helps.

First of all, sorry for replying so late.

I had already checked that option and I had checked the "Convert PDF print jobs to postscript" one as well.
I've tried every combination of the two, unfortunately none solves the issue. :(

Thank you for your time.

After updating to Ubuntu 20.04 I had to reinstall the Turbo Print deb package and the issue is now gone.

Unfortunately I can't tell what solved it and way, as I have not been able to reproduce it so far. :(

Thank you for your patience and time,
all the best!

Page content shiftet right and up, increasing with each page

Post by zedonet »

If anyone else stumbles upon the same problem:

"The second page is printed shiftet to the right and top, this is increasing with each following page"

A workaround for this problem is:

TurboPrint PDF Settings.png
TurboPrint PDF Settings.png (102.84 KiB) Viewed 2845 times

1) Open the settings dialog in TurboPrint Control and uncheck "Convert PDF print jobs to postscript"

2) The print queue must be updated before this setting becomes effective. To do this, click on the printer entry on the list of printers, then open the "Edit" dialog and confirm with "Ok"
