Epson printers not connecting to daemon

Post by Onehand »

I'm running Fedora 14 with Turboprint 2-26.2. I recently installed Epson WP4020 & WP4530 printers driving with WP4025 & WP4535 drivers. Initially, everything worked fine on both printers. Then, I was unable to scan on the 4530. I tried the fixes recommended on the forum - no results. Today, the 4530 printer refuses to accept the automatic feed selection & always reverts to the top feed. I tried re-setting the printer settings - no results.

I'm getting an error message on both printers saying printer is not connected to the daemon. I tried starting the daemon manually - no result. Re-booted - no result.

I dunno . . . HELP Please!

Hello,

this may be a problem that has been fixed in the mean time. Can you please try with the current TurboPrint version 2.32?

Please start TurboPrint daemon in verbose mode - from a terminal window enter

sudo killall tprintdaemon
sudo tprintdaemon 255

to terminate TurboPrint daemon and start it again in verbose mode. If tprintdaemon crashes, copy & paste the last ~100 lines from the terminal window and include them with your post. Also let me know if tprintdaemon is running properly but you still cannot get printer status from TurboPrint Monitor.

Daemon appears to be running normally. Still getting errors - no connection to daemon.

What message is shown in TurboPrint monitor exactly? "Printer not connected" or "no connection to TurboPrint daemon"?
If actually the connection to the deamon is broken, a firewall might be the cause (TurboPrint monitor connects to the daemon via TCP port). Can you try to disable your firewall temporarily? Additionally, an SELinux system module might block access to the deamon - it can also be disabled for testing.

Does printing work? The "No connection to turboprint daemon" Message just means that the printer status cannot be retrieved as the deamon would be needed for that task.
On mar 17 you mentioned that you get "timeout errors" when connecting... where and when is this error shown... in TurboPrint Monitor?
Did you check if tprintdaemon was always still running when the "no connection..." message is shown? It might be the case that the daemon starts but sometime crashes.

Printing works, but paper source can't be changed from rear feed. Daemon running O.K. "No connection" error message dissapeared. New error msg., "Paper Out!" No time-out errors recently.

This seems to be an intermittent, squirrely type of problem. As I said before, this unit ran fine upon installation, and for about a month thereafter. My 4020 unit is now showing errors too, but I have not changed any settings, as I need 1 printer running for my business. I tried changing cables, but that didn't help.

"Automatic feeds" means that the printer decides which paper source to choose.
Have you tried the paper feed setting "Cassette 1"?

"Cassette 1" solved the paper selection problem. Still having communication problems with both printers & Linux. Print works o.k., but "no printer connected" errors appear on monitors. Can't scan with WP4530. Tested with other drivers & same problem exists so, problem is not in drivers, but some kind of USB porting problem, or something. anyway, I'll take it up with Epson. Thanks for the help.

Print is working fine on both printers. Will Turboprint drive the scan function on the WP4530, or, is a separate scanner driver needed?

TurboPrint is only a printer driver, it doesn't support the scanner of multifunction devices.
