OK Nearly a YEAR ON and I still have same issue.
Just revisited it to see if anything had changed.
Re-setup printer. Print test page - prints correctly but monitor shows - I have re-installed Linux Mint 17.3 since I moved to a SSD. Still can't fully use my printer.

OK nearly 6 months later and I still have the same issue.
I just tried again. It SAW the printer for the test page to 99% then went OFFLINE/UNPLUGGED.

Using CUPS I can print a test page on the TP printer, THAT SHOWS IN THE MONITOR WINDOW even though it is "OFF".

OK did that still the same, printer is just sitting there not active.

Yes, it started the printer up on a nozzle check.
BUT it didn't actually print a check.

Still showing off in monitor.

There is NO option for "Canon iP4500 ... TP-USB" ONLY the default one, used other and changed to tp-usb:
No print, printer offline still.

Added line USB_MODE=0. No difference.

That folder doesn't exist.
I have apt/ConsoleKit/cups & Samba but no TP folder.

Yes it prints fine using CUPS, the uri is the same. Just got one of these to try out.
When trying to print a test page, all I get is many many blank pages printed.

Using TP 2.34-1 (registered)
On Linux Mint 17 64bit.
