Old turboprint and new installation

I use (used) turboprint 2.06 with a Canon Pixma ip 4500 printer and it has been working reasonably well in Mepis 8 (KDE 3.5)

I have now upgraded my installation to Mepis 8.5 (KDE 4.3) installed Turboprint, no problems with the installation but....

Turboprint just prints out a totally black sheet whatever the print job is, a test page, a graphic with Gimp or an OpenOffice document.

Is there a solution for this?

Using the regular Canon driver and CUPS, printing is OK although obviously the settings are limited.

Hello,

this sounds like a known problem that is caused by a bug in ghostscript.

See also this thread:

http://www.turboprint.info/support/viewtopic.php?t=684

Downgrading ghostscript should help - or upgrading, if a fixed version is already available for Mepis.

There is also a workaround available for TurboPrint: Edit the file

/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstoturboprint

(64bit Linux: /usr/lib64/cups/filter/pstoturboprint

and change line 350 from

if [ $GSCUPSDEVICE -eq 1 ] ; then

to

if [ $GSCUPSDEVICE -eq 2 ] ; then

Thank you for the reply.

I downgraded ghostscript to debian stable - ver. 8.62 which has fixed the black page problem.
