won't print Ubuntu 10.10 / Canon PIXMA Pro9500II

Post by sinisterbrain »

Symptom: Cannot print anything, test page, or regular prints
Exceptions: Nozzle Check, Align Print Head print work as expected.
Operating system: Ubuntu 10.10 (Installed/updated today)
Printer: Canon PIXMA Pro9500II (new - prints great using windows)

No errors are produced when I attempt to print. The job shows up in the queue. The status light flashes briefly. Then it disappears and the printer monitor says "Job finished - 0 Pages"

When I check the logs I see nothing (no log entries):
root@prometheus:~# find /var/log/cups/ /var/log/turboprint/ -ls
265039 4 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jan 23 01:47 /var/log/cups/
260670 12 -rw-r----- 1 root adm 8637 Jan 23 18:51 /var/log/cups/access_log
264282 4 drwxrwxr-x 2 lp lp 4096 Jan 23 18:08 /var/log/turboprint/
264283 0 -rw-r--r-- 1 mhenry mhenry 0 Nov 29 08:05 /var/log/turboprint/turboprint.log
260666 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 183 Jan 23 18:30 /var/log/turboprint/config.log
264708 12 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9069 Jan 23 17:58 /var/log/turboprint/install.log
264285 0 -rw-rw-r-- 1 lp lp 0 Nov 29 08:05 /var/log/turboprint/print.log

I purchased and paid for Turbo Print - not a trial user because your product worked great for me in the past. :-)

What should I do?

Hello,

thank you for your feedback & log files!

The file /var/log/turboprint/print.log is empty, which implies that no print job has been processed by the TurboPrint printer driver (the nozzle check and align commands are not handled by the driver). The other logs don't contain any information relevant to the problem.

Possible reasons that print.log is empty are:

- the printer driver could not be executed - the log file /var/log/cups/error_log should contain information on the problem
- print jobs from an application were sent to a different print queue - make sure to select the TurboPrint driver (usually named "tp0"). However, printing a test page from TurboPrint control should always work.

To enable cups logging to /var/log/cups/error_log, edit the file /etc/cups/cupsd.conf and add / modify the line

LogLevel debug

Included in this comment is the latest logs after enabling cups debugging and attempting several test prints.

I didn't see anything weird in the logs, but you're the experts. :-)

Thanks.

I see what happened in the logs. I passed an option to my browser the configuration file doesn't allow spaces.

I'm printing fine now.

How long until my license arrives? The email said up to 4 hours. It's been about 14 now.

Thanks for your help!

Good to hear that you already solved the problem!
Whad did you enter as browser command line & options?

Your keyfile was sent to you shortly after your purchase via email and I just sent it again.

/opt/google/chrome/google-chrome --incognito

My default option. :-)

What's the subject of the license mail. It's not arrived in my inbox, and not showing up in my spam queue for the last 24 hours (unless your license claims to make things larger)
