PIXMA Pro 9000 no longer prints to CD

Post by rasman »

Since upgrading my driver to 2.12-1 I have been unable to print to CD.
Any attempt to print a CD results in message CD-Tray open or missing.
The settings for the print job show up as:
Paper size = A4
Media type = Plain paper
Quality = High
Feed = CD Tray
Colour mode = RGB
Resolution = 24000dbi
Tray= Front
Duplex = Off
Cartridge = Photo
User = richardm

This results from having the configuration set to
Paper: CD printable

and the print options set to
paper tray from printer settings when I get the print dialogue form open office.

If I unselect Paper Tray from printer sessions I have no way of specifying to paper settings as was possible from the previous version of the driver.

What's the problem here? Set-up, driver or printer?

Help much appreciated

From which application did you print?

It is important to set pagesize to "CD printable" and paper/media type to "CD printable" (or "CD Verbatim glossy"). If the application offers these settings in the print dialog, you must make these settings there - OpenOffice and GIMP have the settings in the print dialog.

If everything is correct, TurboPrint Monitor should display "Paper size = CD printable", "Media type = CD printable".

The problem seems to be that open office 3.1 doesn't offer the same range of options that OOo version 2 did. I don't know why. But 3.1 doesn't have an option to select paper type and always defaults to plain reported in the Turboprint monitor.

Is there something I need to do regarding the printer installation so that OOo picks up all the options? I notice that print from firefox does present a much fuller print dialogue including options to select media type.

Further progress. What I hadn't realised is that the media settings are now under a Device tab, which looked non-selectable as it was greyed out in Ubuntu. Anyway it isn't and I can select media type CD printable. But it still doesn't print.

Turboprints monitor shows the media type to be CD Printable, Tray Front and Feed = CD Tray.

I have tried both paper size A4 and CD/DVD. But I have to say that in my previous set up - RHEL5 + Trboprint V1 + OOo V2 I was only able to print CDs using Ooo Draw by specifying papersize A4, Printable CD and CD Tray.

Despite these settings the printer still wants to print on paper.

Any thoughts?

Further update.
I resurrected my defunct RHEL5 with turboprint 1.96 and OOO 2.3.
CD prints fine using size A4, CD tray and Printable CD media.

Next I installed the v2 turboprint and all is fine.

Back to Ubunto Karmic with OOO 3.1. carefully check settings. All in agreement with old system. Print and the printer wants paper not a CD, inspite of turboprint monitor saying that the medium is printable CD, and CD-Tray.

Can this really be an ooo problem? Any way to trace the calls the turbo print?

It works on our Ubuntu 9.10 installation (except for the position problem - margins must be adjusted to left/top=0cm, right/bottom=2cm to work around a problem in OO3.1).

Please post the log file /var/log/turboprint/print.log - only section for last print job starting from "### New print job...".

I've done more investigation on this.

turboprint2 + openoffice 3.1.1 (sun build) on REHEL 5 - works
turboprint2 + openoffice 3.1.1 (Ubuntu build) on Karmic doesn't print to CD.

I've tried this on two different karmic systems.

same results.

Just tried printing from firefox, specifying CD Tray and CD printable and same problem. So Openoffice seem to be off the hook.

Looks like a problem with Karmic+Turboprint.
