Green and Red ink on Canon Pro 9500 and 9000 mk II

Post by mr_spock123 »

Hello, it seems that I'm unable to print using the Red and Green Inks expecially on the Pixma 9000 Mk II, is this normal?

I'm using as profile a profile created with Glossy /Semiglossy photo paper.

As for I can understand there are some paper setting that enable the usage of this extra inks.

How can I make them print?

Thanks

Up, please help me. I've tried all kind of papers, also the fineart ones, all kind of settings in ink limit and sliders but the red and green ink are never used.

Version used 1.9d

This printer is handled as if it is a 6 ink printer instead 8 ! Red and Green are just wasted in cleaning cycles but never used in printing.

Please help, how I can use the red and green ink on this printer? Is super important to me!

Also red and green ink are not present in the multi black options either. See attachments below.

Hello,

the Canon PIXMA Pro 9500 II can print with Red and Green on matte, glossy and fineart media (not on plain paper), so PrintFab prints with Red and Green on all media except plain paper.

The PrintFab driver for the Canon PIXMA Pro 9000 II actually does not use Red and Green ink for the following reason:

The Canon PIXMA Pro 9000 II has restrictions within the printer firmware that restricts usage of Red and Green: the firmware allows to use Red and Green only for glossy media and only in the highest print quality.
To support Red and Green just for a specific print quality would have meant larger changes within the PrintFab modules and also to create additional color profiles. This is why we decided not to use Red and Green for the Pro 9000 II.
We are aware that it this is not 100% satisfactory.

Could I ask if it's possible step back on that decision and enable that usage only in that condition? I understand that it will require a bit more of coding but there's a good reason behind it:

As DYE professional printer this machine is practically meant to work more than 90% of the time in glossy/semiglossy and maximum resolution (there's no point either in choosing lesser quality because this machine is rocket fast even at maximum resolution).

Now you understand that if all time you print in this condition, having these 2 inks and use red/green each time you need this colors instead of generating them with PM/Y/PC makes a lot of sense. The way it is actually you just waste RED and GREEN in cleaning cycles instead of putting them on paper, and would like use them with printfab instead the poor canon driver.

Please, I've 2 machines of this kind and this is sad :(
