Printing without application

Post by GrahamB »

Hello, and sorry if this is a simple rookie error.

I use darktable to edit photos, but it has no printer driver for Windows (10 or other). I have a Canon proGraf1000 printer.
Until now, I have been printing via Irfanview (limited printer control, doubtful colour management), or Canon "Professional Print and Layout" (full control, but incredibly buggy user interface).

So I installed PrintFab on the advice of a Linux user. My expectation was to be able to directly print, for example, an adobeRGB without going via yet another application. Yet so far as I can see, there is no way to create a job directly from an image file... is this correct?

Regards,
Graham

Hello,

PrintFab currently works only as a printer driver.

You can use any application to print, e.g. PhotoShop, Lightroom or also IrfanView.
The IrfanView print dialog doesn't offer color management, this no real problem because the PrintFab driver offers all relevant color management settings.

We are working on implementing functionality to print documents or photos directly, so printing without an application will be possible in a future PrintFab release.
