Cannot get Canon Pixma MX850 to printer over network

Post by kassoe »

Hi,

Not sure how to set this up so I can get a Canon Pixma MX850 to work. Haven't been able to find help.
Printer is currently connected and working on network with Windows computer.
I tried "Windows network printer", found and entered the local IP and the workgroup name. Don't know what to put under print server. When I look up in my Win 7 PC it just gives the name of the PC as the print server. Doesn't make sense to add that on the Ubuntu machine.

I found the printer server settings on the Ubuntu and ran the troubleshooter which didn't hel. The log is down below. I'm new to Linux/Ubuntu.

Help will be appreciated

Hello,

most Canon inkjet printers only accept the proprietary '"BJNP" network protocol.

Depending on the Linux distribution, the printer is normally found automatically when you open the "+" dialog in TurboPrint Control to add a new printer - in this case it is listed e.g. as "Canon MX850 BJNP" in the selector "Choose port".

If this is not the case, you have to find out the printer IP address in the printer's network configuration menu. In TurboPrint Control, use the connection type "Other" and enter

URI = "bjnp://<ip-address>"

(replace <ip-address> by the actual ip address).

Had to add it manually. Ubuntu 11.10 - 64. Already tried manual install of some of printer software which may be why it wasn't recognized automatically. Anyway, it works now. Thanks.
