Msg Returned with GIMP via TP

Post by Star_Gazer »

I'm getting a repetitive message when printing via TurboPrint plug-in for GIMP, but the file still prints. What's weird is the same message is repeated several times on a long dialog on the monitor:
***************************************************************************
(ICON HERE) TurboPrint Message

Unable to open PPD file /home/USERNAME/tmp/4e304c863500f

Message repeated once.

(ICON HERE) TurboPrint Message

Unable to open PPD file /home/USERNAME/tmp/4e304c863500f
Unable to open PPD file /home/USERNAME/tmp/4e304c863500f
Unable to open PPD file /home/USERNAME/tmp/4e304c863500f
Unable to open PPD file /home/USERNAME/tmp/4e304c863500f
Unable to open PPD file /home/USERNAME/tmp/4e304c863500f
...
***************************************************************************

Should I reinstall the TP Plug-in for GIMP, and if so, how do I do that?
I'm running openSUSE 12.x KDE.
Thanks

Hello,

this message has not been observed by us or been reported by user users yet.

Where does the message appear - on the terminal (only if you start gimp from command line) or in a window?
When is it shown - when you open the print dialog or when you actually print?
Does the GIMP TurboPrint print plugin show your printer(s) and the print options and paper sizes?

On a Window/Dialog..

Once I select "Print" from the TurboPrint Window, to print the document; then the TurboPrint Monitor and Preview comes up for confirmation to print.
Does the GIMP TurboPrint print plugin show your printer(s) and the print options and paper sizes?
Funny you should mention that ... there is no options available to select the "Paper Size" or "Page Size", though the Headings are there for them. The only printer that shows up is "IP4000-TurboPrint" ; I assume that is all that is allowed for the one printer, Canon PIXMA iP4000.

I can do screens hots for you if you want.

Thank you.

Thank you for your quick answer!

Yes, it would be helpful if you could post screenshots.

Here's a screen shot of the message returned;
note that as best as I can tell, the files still print correctly;
I removed the USERNAME from the screen-shot:

The Plug-in Dialog is in the next post.

Here is the tp plug-in for GIMP dialog;

Despite there are no settings for the Page/Paper Size,
that has not mattered - I've even printed Bank Checks and Envelopes:

It seems that TurboPrint can't access the printer "PPD" (postscript printer description) file(s) that specify paper sizes, print resolution etc. The GIMP-TurboPrint print plugin requests these files from the CUPS print spooler which returns them as temporary files. The error message says that the files cannot be found in "/home/<username>/tmp". This is a bit unusual - the normal location would be "/tmp", the system directory for temporary files.

Which Linux distribution do you use SuSE Linux 12.1?
Do you know of any special configuration of your Linux installation that could cause a different location of the temporary directory?

I'm using Linux Distribution openSUSE 12.1 KDE.

The "/home/<username>/tmp" is a Symlink which points to "/tmp". I went into the GIMP preferences and set it to directly point to "/tmp", and that didn't solve the issue; then I set the TMPDIR to "/tmp", and that didn't solve the issue either. I restarted GIMP for each change.
