Epson SX400 - text prints in grey not black

Post by oldbristolian »

I have just installed Turboprint for the first time on a friend's Ubuntu 6.06 together with an Epson SX400. All appeared to work fine - test print prints excellently and I looked through the various settings to ensure all in order - which I thought it was.
However any output from Open Office or text editor etc. does not print black text but only in a medium grey (test print does black ok).
I spent a bit of time looking through settings but all appeared in order - problem is I do not have easy access to this machine so I need some ideas before I go again.
Must be something very obvious.
Thanks for any help/assistance/suggestions.

Hello,

the print quality that is used when printing from OpenOffice might be a lower quality than when printing the test page, so less ink is applied resulting in "grey" text.

In the OpenOffice print dialog, open "Properties", in the properties dialog, click on tab "device", option "print quality" to set the print quality. Choosing "360dpi fine" should produce black text, you can also try "720dpi".

Please let me know if this helps.
