cups not cancelling jobs

since several programs like mousepad and gimp can lock up a TP driven printer by sending incorrect data it essential to have a means to kill these broken jobs that just keep spewing inappropriate data at the driver.
I find the CUPS web admin makes a fairly bad job of this. It claims to have cancelled all jobs but then they reappear.
the cups console command cancel seems more effective here.
