Canon Pro-300 only prints 600ppi, not 1200ppi

Post by E4327W »

I tried sending raster graphics to the Canon Pro-300 printer at 1200ppi and selected super-1200 resolution in the Canon_imagePROGRAF_Pro300 (PrintFab) driver, but the printer only prints every other row (and column) of pixels at 600ppi. The Canon stock driver does the same, even at highest resolution setting. Is this a limitation of the printer, or am I doing something wrong?

Hello,

I just checked Canon's specifications and your observation is correct. For printers like the Canon imagePROGRAF Pro-300 that perform halftoning in the printer firmware, there are two types of "print resolution" :

- the "input resolution" or "rendering resolution" that is accepted by the printer firmware
- the "output resolution" or "halftone resolution" which is the maximum resolution the printer uses to place ink drops

The input resolution is actually limited to 600x600dpi.
