Canon Pixma Pro 9000 II won't print correctly

Post by lje2024 »

I have a Canon Pro 9000 II connected to a Silex SX-3000GB USB print server. I can print to it without issue using a 2010 Mac Pro running OS X Mojave 10.14.6 using the Canon drivers. However, my Mac Book Pro laptop runs macOS Monterey 12.7.5 which is not supported by Canon.

I downloaded the PrintFab 2.98-2 driver to give it a try on my laptop since I saw a post in the Canon forums saying that worked. However, so far no luck... photos will print out, but there are unsightly horizontal streaks.

To make sure it wasn't a printer issue, I printed from the Mac Pro in-between printing from my laptop. The Mac Pro print was fine, the two prints from the laptop had horizontal streaks. I've attached a scan of both a print using the PrintFab driver from my laptop (PrintFab_driver_issue.jpg) and one using the Canon driver from the Mac Pro (Canon_driver.jpg).

I do still have the old Canon drivers on my laptop (/Library/Printers/Canon) should I remove those in case somehow that's still getting used (I specifically selected the PrintFab driver when setting up the new

Thanks in advance for any assistance or suggestions

Hello, your image looks as if the printhead or the ink supply is not working properly. So as a first step, please print a nozzle test page from PrintFab Toolbox -> button "Open toolbox for selected printer" -> button "Nozzle Check". Please compare to the attached image and post a photo of your nozzle test page.

You wrote that the original Canon driver does not show the problem. The Canon driver may use a different ink mix (e.g. it prints with less or no light Cyan ink) so the problem may be not visible or less visible.

PrintFab does not use the original Canon driver files, but it is no problem if PrintFab and the Canon software are installed at the same time.

Thanks for your reply, I did notice that the PrintFab colors did appear closer to what I see on the monitor, and was wondering if it might be the difference in inks used, but the streaks were so prominent I discounted that theory. I'll try printing out a test page later today.

Attached is the scan of the nozzle check printout. I don't see streaks per se, but the cyan and yellow are two toned. For cyan, the top half appears lighter, and for yellow, the lower half appears lighter. Would a nozzle cleaning correct this?

Thank you for sending the nozzle check. It looks as if a part of the cyan nozzles is not working. I think the bad print quality is a hardware problem and not a printer driver problem, especially as the Canon Pixma Pro 9000 and Pro 9000 II printers are in use by many of our customers and print quality usually is excellent.
