Hi
I have been a user for a few years now. I noticed that on my last distro that I had some very idiosyncratic print speed issues.
Example:
- Print 4x6 in GIMP plugin. Prints fine at normal speed.
- Print borderless 4x6 in system module. Prints very slow, with head transitioning once every 5 seconds
- Print borderless 5x7 in system module. Prints fine at normal speed
I just installed Fedora 40. Same issue, except this time:
- can't print via system dialog
- 4x6 in GIMP plugin prints very slow, , with head transitioning once every 5 seconds
If I try the system dialog using the standard driver (not TurboPrint), then it prints a 4x6 as normal.
Setup now:
- Fedora 40, USB2 direct connection
Setup previous:
- Linux Mint 21, direct USB2 connection
Printing is very slow

Hello, what is your printer model and which CPU does your PC have?

Details below
Note per my feedback above... it is idiosyncratic depending on how I kick off the print request, and paper size.
Epson 3880
Turboprint v 2.56-1

Re: Printing is very slow
I just tried printing a 5x7 at 720 dpi
It took around 5 minutes! Usually this takes about 30-60 seconds

Hello, the only explanation that I have is that data transfer via USB doesn't run reliably. There are several things that you could try:
1) try a different USB cable and make sure to connect your printer directly, not via USB HUB
2) select the other USB backend in TurboPrint Control
3) connect your printer via network cable instead of USB

Re: Printing is very slow
OK thank you
I will try ethernet insterad. I made a crossover cable to allow me to directly connect to my computer (don't have enough ports in my office to put the printer on the network).
I will report back once I've figured out how to set this up.

[SOLVED] Re: Printing is very slow
OK, I tried instead connecting the printer to my network via a standard patch cable.
I set it up with cups (via system utlities), then copied the cups URI to set up the print in turboprint
Works, and printing speed is now fast!
I created a separate thread on how I could set up the printer instead with a crossover cable.
Thanks for your help. This thread is solved
