firefox - can't print from

Post by Scorpaen »

I have a canon pixma 1800
i'm using the 1700 driver as the 1800 is not listed.
i can print fine from gimp or kwrite but when i try to print from firefox
it just sits there 'processing' in the print job viewer.
how do i fix this, please?

Hello,

our Canon PIXMA iP1700 driver also works for the iP1800. I think it is a problem that is not directly related to the printer driver.

It could be e.g. a known problem accessing printers in Ubuntu Linux - see this post:

I'm sorry fot the delay!

For closer investigation you could send the log files

/var/log/turboprint_cups.log
/var/log/cups/error_log

after trying to print from Firefox (section for the least print is sufficient).

Hello,

it seems that the postscript code from Firefox is not correct (I haven't heard of such a problem before). Maybe upgrading Firefox helps. You can also try to print to a postscript file and email the print job to me (m a i l at z e d o n e t dot c o m).

Hello,

I know that this kind of information can be useless to somebody, when their particular install isn't working. But just having seen this post recently myself, I tried printing from an ancient version of Firefox.

My Turboprint version is v1.96-3 , and my Linux Box is based on Kanotix, which is a Debian version. The specific version of Kanotix is the 2005 Release Candidate 4 aka 'Easter Edition,' since they too have come out with the 2006 RC6 version aka 'Thorhammer.' And the Easter Edition's Firefox program had no problem printing to my Canon PIXMA MP150, even though this printer is on a different (XP) computer, thus being a shared printer over a LAN.

Conclusion: It isn't Firefox. It *may be* that one driver.
