Text on same line of a graphic image are bolder on IP5000

Post by Greg »

I have noticed that when printing on the Canon IP5000 with PrintFab 2.06, lines of black text that are printed on the same line of other graphic images have a darker, bolder appearance than lines of text that have no other images on the same line.

As an example with a Word file, I could have identical text to the left of a graphic image and text below the graphic image, but the one to the left of the image (on the same horizontal location of the image) would look partially bold and stand out, where as the line of text below the image (with nothing other than the text on the same line) would be normal and correct.

Printing the same image without using PrintFab works fine.

Any ideas as to the cause of this behavior? Thanks!

Hello,

thank you for your feedback!

There is some optimization for black&white sections of the page for better throughput, so black text might be rendered a bit different when placed next to images.
However, the difference should be hardly visible. Is this effect new in PrintFab 2.06?

It would be helpful to have the printfab log file "printfab_cups.log"
emailed after such a print:

- Open "Applications" / "Utilities" / "Console"
- Click on "Logs"
- Choose the log file: double click "/var/log", then "printfab_cups.log"
- copy the section for the last printout & paste to the forum

Log file and sample print

Post by Greg »

Thanks for your response!

I printed a sample word file with similar text lines next to and below images. After it printed, I scanned the paper and uploaded it to:

http://energizemypc.com/printing_flaw.jpg

where you can see how the lines of text look different when they should all be the same.

The log file for this print job is located below:

I only started using PrintFab with version 2.06. I bought PrintFab to be able to use this Canon Printer on a Windows machine through the network, but because of this problem I cannot do that as I must print without PrintFab using a local USB connection.

Your help is appreciated!

Hello,

the problem will be solved in the next PrintFab release - I have sent a patch file by email to fix the problem for now.
