Canon F30 Won't print

Post by sjay »

The following is the turboprint_cups.log when I tried to print from Open Office on Ubuntu 7.10. Nothing printed. The only message from Ubuntu was "The printer may not be connected" which pops up after a delay.
Test print under turboprint won't work either. I haven't been able to get turboprint to work at all after re-installing multiple times. The Canon Multipass F-30 is connected to a WinXP machine on the network. I have installed the printer add-on in WinXP. The Ubuntu machine gets its DHCP address from a Linksys Router behind a linux machine running Smoothwall. The WinXP machine (with printer) gets its DHCP address from the same router.

Hello,

the log file is okay so there must be a problem with sending the print data over the network.

You can look into /var/log/cups/error_log.

You can also debug printing to Windows from command line:

E.g.

echo "hello" | smbclient //server/printer -c "print -"

will send the text "hello" to the printer "printer" on server "server" (change "server" and "printer" to the server name and printer share name on your network).

The printer will not print but you should see if the connection works (e.g. hold the print queue on XP and check if a print job appears.

If this works, printing should also work via Turboprint - in TurboPrint Setup, choose "Remote Windows" as connection, enter the "server" name and the "printer" name and "guest" as "user name".

:D Thanks. Got it to work. Tried sending echo as you suggested and saw some life so investigated error log further and found certificate error. Added cupsys as user, Changed alphabetical server address to numerical IP address and it now works.
