wireless printing mp620

I'm running ubuntu 8.10 . MP620 works fine with wireless in vista. In Ubuntu, turboprint enables me to print from laptop over network, as long as mp620 is connected via usb to PC, which of course, must be switched on, to allow network printing.

I want to use the wireless facility in the printer itself, and not rely on my PC. Have entered the IP address of the printer accurately, using network printer socket / jetdirect option + port 9100 but doesn't work. Messages that printer is not connected.

How do I make wireless feature work?

Also,would appreciate advice on how would I go about getting scanner to work?

I'm a relatively basic ubuntu user, though happy with the occasional sudo command etc.

Working now! The correct settings had been picked up when I added the printer, and transferred them into turboprint. I now suspect simply a weak signal between the laptop/router/printer.
