Hello,

"RIP" stands for "Raster Image Processor".
The name "RIP" is often used a synonym for software that is used to proof-print documents that should go to press - PDF, Postscript or TIFF documents, usually in CMYK color space.

PrintFab offers "RIP functionality" because it allows to print in CMYK mode with a simulation of offset printing color reproduction (support for CMYK ICC color profiles with colorimetric intent). Conventional drivers only support RGB mode, which means that they can only provide a loose approximation of color reproduction in offset printing.

Is this the same when you "rip" a cd?

To "RIP" a CD or DVD means to copy audio or video content, this is not possible with PrintFab (see explanation above).
