preview picture in gimp plugin

Post by jean-jacques »

Hi,
i use TP-Studio ver 2.46-1 and Gimp ver 2.8.
My workflow is with pictures in Adobe RGB(98) profile because of my D90.
My display (a Nec SupraVision) is calibrated with a colourmunki display colorimeter.
I use gimp and digikam.
In both the colour gestion is on, with working space = AdobeRgb. My pictures look exactly egal in these two softs.
Tp parameters in the color item configuration are:
in "couleur": RVB
in "espace couleur"; Adobe RGB 98. A Profile i put in "espace de travail" in TP control box. The same icc file is in Gimp and Digikam.
When i use the preview in gimp plugin the picture look different with more darkness.
I used others working space like eciRGB; DonRGB; wideRGB etc. and this is the same problem.
I tried others "modes de rendu " included BPC with the same problem.
Then I have gone to display filters in the gimp view item and i put away the colour management. Now the preview and the picture in gimp look the same.
Conclusion: it seems that there 's no use of colour management in the TP gimp plugin preview. Is it right?
Thanks.

Hello Jean-Jacques,

the Gimp printing plugin from TurboPrint is not intended as a color preview but for placing the image on the page. Are your prints via TurboPrint also too dark or do you get correct colors there?

No problem with the result printed.
is it very difficult to have colour management in a next release for the gimp plugin ?
Regards.

Hello Jean-Jaques,

a color preview utility that works with all applications is under development, however this may take some time.

In the mean time you can use our softproof ICC profiles directly in GIMP.
You can download them here (download links at the end of the page):

Thanks.
This is a solution and I have dowloaded these profiles but they are generic.
I got by you a profile for the canon sg201 paper with the extention .pfprofile which is great but is not a "canonical" one ie .icc or .icm and gimp doesn't recognize it.

Then you have probably downloaded the wrong profile. Please make sure that you select the profiles listed under "ICC softproof profile". These profles all have the filename suffix ".icc".
Profiles with ".profile" can only be used with TurboPrint for printer color correction.

Sorry i was not clear enough.
I got the .icc but the profile .pf is a profile you build for me recently.
Best regards.

I'll email you a preview profile for the profile that we created for you.
