Printing without application

Hello, and sorry if this is a simple rookie error.
I use darktable to edit photos, but it has no printer driver for Windows (10 or other). I have a Canon proGraf1000 printer.
Until now, I have been printing via Irfanview (limited printer control, doubtful colour management), or Canon "Professional Print and Layout" (full control, but incredibly buggy user interface).
So I installed PrintFab on the advice of a Linux user. My expectation was to be able to directly print, for example, an adobeRGB without going via yet another application. Yet so far as I can see, there is no way to create a job directly from an image file... is this correct?
Regards,
Graham
