Setting up printer with direct ethernet crossover cable

Hi
Related to my other issue of printing too slow I am trying to now direct connect my printer to my PC using a crossover ethernet cable.
I read the TurboPrint user manual and it isn't clear how to set this up (or even if it is possible).
I can manually set up the printer to a specific IP address, subnet and gateway via the panel on the printer. However I can't see how I could then add this via the turboprint control panel.
For example in the turboprint control panel, I tried editing the existing entry from 'standard printer' to 'other printer'
Then tried pretty much every combo
My PC has a dynamic IP right now (I can make that static), but entering the currently assigned one didn't work
My PC IP: 192.168.1.24
Printer:
IP 169.254.116.066
subnet 255.255.000.000
gateway 255.255.255.255
