Printing ink limit test row

Post by laoe »

This time I seem to have Turboprint installed, working nice and have purchased a license.

Now !'m trying to make a profile chart to send to you but I can't print the ink limit test row.
The profile I want is for a heavy matte paper. My printer, Epson xp-8600, needs to have this paper from the rear feed. When I try to print, it is printed on plain paper from the standard feed instead. It seems it is no way to select printing from the rear feed?
Tried to remove all paper from the standard feed and print the heavy paper from there, but nothing was printed on it.

Is it ok to send the color chart without the ink limit test row if it looks decent? Or is there another way?

Hello,

unfortunately it is not possible to select the paper source when printing the ink limit row or color chart.
It is sufficient to send the color chart, we don't need the ink limit test row.

You can change the default paper source by editing the text file

/usr/share/turboprint/printers/Epson_XP750series.tpp

(also used for the XP-8600 printer)

In the section

[Default]
Colormode=2
Cartridge=0
Paper=0
Quality=1
Pagesize=3
Feed=0

change "Feed=0" to "Feed=4" to make the rear feeder the default, this default is used for profile printing.

Sorry, don't work.
Printer takes the thick paper from the rear feed, then takes a new plain paper from the standard paper source and print the coror chart on that.
This is the section on my machine, can the "Tray=0" entry have anythting to do with it?

[Default]
Colormode=2
Cartridge=0
Paper=0
Quality=1
Pagesize=3
# Feed=0 er default. Feed=4 gjør rear feader til default
Feed=4
Tray=0
Duplex=0
Dithering=0

Sorry that this time my answer is slow. It is a good sign that the printer feeds from the rear tray.

Please check if you can feed from the rear tray when making regular prints with TurboPrint (i.e. print from an application, not ink limit or profile chart).

Also check if the printer is configured at the operator panel for the same media type that you are trying to feed, e.g. printer set to Matte Heavy paper.

Now it worked!
Will try to send profile one of the days

It is no problem with regular printing from application (Gimp 2.10 series) with heavy paper from the rear feed.
This time I triple checked every configuration in the operator panel before printing the profile, and I can only assume I messed up something the first time.
Sorry for the bother.

Btw.
Re not able to print from Gimp 3, I read on the forum that you was considering to make a standalone app for printing instead.
I think this sounds like a good idea and is interested in if you are going on with it. Any thougths on if or when?

Hello, a first beta version of TurboPrint with the new standalone printing app is planned for end of this year or start of 2026.
