What is the differerence between the Epson P900 and the rip version

Post by roncromberge »

Hello,

Is there a difference (of course. Otherwise is the need for 2 different drivers ...)

I'm using the Epson P900 with roll attachment. So I'm forced to buy the expensive XL variant.

In testing both drivers i see no visual difference. is there a specific special usecase for de rip driver?

best regards,

Hello Ron,

the drivers use different "printer languages" for sending the image data. The RIP driver addresses each ink channel individually, ink mixing and dithering is done via PrintFab. The other driver sends images as RGB data, so dithering and color creation is done in the printer firmware. The latter driver is designed for printing RGB images, its advantage is that you can also use color profiles designed for the manufacturer's driver. The RIP driver has more control over ink volumes and combination of black and color inks (e.g. for proof prints, screen printing).
