Red Cast On Canon G620 MacOS

Post by tjbuege »

Hi,

I have a Canon G620 printer. Had it when I was still running Windows, but I've now switched to Mac. Found out the Airprint driver doesn't support color management. :x So I've been evaluating PrintFab for Mac.

I'm still having difficulties with prints that have too much red or magenta. I'm on a MacBook Pro with my display preset set to Photography (P3-D65). I'm printing on Canon Photo Plus Semigloss paper. I'm printing from the latest Affinity Photo 2.6.2. The color profile of my file I'm printing is Apple RGB. The colors look correct on the screen and they match the original artwork I scanned on a scanner that has been calibrated with an IT8 Target.

I have the following settings set in the print dialog:

Color Matching: In Printer
PrintFab Settings:
Main / Quality: 3 - 1200 dpi
Main / Media Type: Photo Paper Plus Semigloss
Main / Dithering: Error Diffusion
Color / Intent: Perception Photo
Color / Color Space: Apple RGB (1998)

Am I missing something? The G620 profiles built-in to PrintFab should be removing the red cast, right? This doesn't look much different than if I just print straight using the AirPrint driver.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hello, I just answered by email:

With PrintFab and the built-in profile for Canon Photo Paper Plus Semigloss paper you should get good color reproduction without a color cast.

If there is a red color cast when printing with PrintFab and almost the same color cast when printing via Airprint, we should first check if the printer is working properly - there might be a problem with ink supply, e.g. a clogged print head.

To make sure that the printer is working problerly, please open the PrintFab Toolbox application -> button "Open toolbox for selected printer" and print a nozzle test page.

If the color boxes are not printed homogenuously as in the image above, please perform print head cleaning also from the Toolbox dialog.

As a next step, please print a test page from PrintFab Toolbox - select "Test and status page".

If you cannot solve the problem, please send a photo of the nozzle test page, a photo of the test page and a photo of a printed page that shows the problem ("red color cast"). Also please include a screenshot of the original document.
